What is gender?

There are different associations with what masculinity and Femininity are 'meant' to be like, we watched a variety of different videos and came up with a few different ones:

Masculinity:

- Strong, Tough

- Macho

- If a man is not strong, tough or macho then there are not a true man and will be mocked by females.

- Men should all be into the same things to be seen as a man

- Men cant be soppy, cute or sweet or they are seen as less of a man

- Men should be interested in girls

- Men should look a certain way, drink certain beer and even smell a certain way

- Men should get women or they are not a real man

- Sex is important they are less of a man if they don't get it

Femininity:

- Men are in control of the women

- Women do as they are told

- Women are seen as the ones who cook and clean

- Beauty or brain, women don't have both.

- Women can not be educated and be good looking

- Women should be slim, tall, pretty.

- Women believe they are only pretty if they are a certain way (ideal way for men)

- Women shouldn't get involved with the men's conversations - embarrassment

- Women don't have their own opinion

- Women should be plain and simple and try to out smart the men


Camera shots:
Different camera shots can portray men or women in different ways:
- High angles to make women look weak
- Low angles to make men look powerful and superior to women
- Different angles focusing on the women's features (bum and breasts) to imply that is all they are good for.
